Oil of Catechumens - used in the celebration of Baptism, both for infants and adults;
Oil of the Sick - used in the celebration of the Sacrament of Anointing the Sick;
Chrism - used in the celebration of the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders, and also used to consecrate a new altar and the walls of a new church building.
Preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation
Act of Contrition
My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against You
Whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with Your help
to do penance, to sin no more
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Amen
How can you prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation? Devote some time to prayerful examination of your feelings, thoughts, your words, actions, values and priorities, goals, and way of life. An examination of conscience, not only includes our personal life, but your relationships with family and friends, your working and business life, your political commitments and even your recreational choices. Ask God to give you the grace to make a thorough examination of your conscience, the courage to make a sincere and complete confession, and the strength to amend your way of life in the future.
Anointing of the Sick
Any of the faithful suffering from sickness or advanced age may receive this sacrament. The sacrament may also be given to those afflicted with mental illness, addictions, depression, serious stress, those who are preparing for surgery or those suffering from a chronic illness.
Within the context of the Mass the Anointing of the Sick is administered after the homily by the laying on of hands; then the forehead of the person is anointed with the Oil of the Infirm praying for healing and then the palms are anointed praying for forgiveness of any sin.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is also offered upon request. If you would like receive the sacrament, please call the parish office at 312/944-1230 (Immaculate Conception) or 312/787-7174 (St. Joseph).
