St. Joseph on Orleans is the third oldest parish in Chicago. The 2007 renovation of the church brought it back to its original beauty. Handpainted stencil work surrounds the worship space and the sanctury walls as it did when it was built.
The church's windows are a treasure. St. Joseph is one of a handful of churches in the nation to have stained glass windows signed by Zettler.  It has been said that "architects supervising the construction of churches will find in the Zettler Windows work of the highest artistic merit, actually deserving of first consideration wherever quality is an object."

Fr. Julius Ogolla
Dear Fr. Pat Lee and Parishioners of St. Joseph,

Receive many Greetings for Musoma Diocese, and Makutano Parish.

I hope you are doing fine. I would like to use this opportunity to thank you for the money you sent me. The amount I received was equivalent to Tanzania shillings 1,400,000.00. I like also to tell you that, I have already started using the money for construction of the Parish Church. Once I finish the construction of the Parish Church I will let you know.

May the Almighty God bless all of you... I wish you the best,

Rev. Fr. Julius Auko Ogolla, Vicar General

St. Joseph's Pipe Organ

St. Joseph church housed an organ built by Wolfram of Chicago. In 1872, the church relocated to Market (now Orleans) and Hill Streets, and the present Gothic church was commenced, with completion in 1878. In 1900, the Lancashire-Marshall firm of Moline, Illinois, installed an organ in the rear gallery. This organ was rebuilt or replaced in the 1930's, probably by Charles Wiener of Chicago. In the summer of 1973, the steeple collapsed. Stone and debris from the tower and roof landed inside the organ case, destroying the contents.

With the help of the Organ Clearing House of Harrisville. New Hampshire, a vintage organ was procured, restored, and installed in the Lancashire-Marshall case by the Bradford Organ Company of Evanston, Illinois.

St. Joseph's Stained Glass mugs are a wonderful and practical keepsake. The full-color mug captures the rich, vibrant colors of the windows of St. Joseph. The windows are a true treasure designed by F. X. Zettler.

Zettler and his Royal Bavarian Art Institute became known for the quality of their design, clearness of glass in spite of rich use of colors, and their conscious employment of the medium to realize harmonious decorative effects.

The scenes depicted were heavily influenced by the emotion and sentimentality of the 19th century European Romantic style of painting, and the detail and ornateness of the German Baroque style.
